It is committed to defeating dementia through research. Its award-winning research programme, Quality Research in Dementia&amp;nbsp;(QRD) involves people with dementia and their carers in setting the research agenda, awarding grants and assessing outcomes.The BMAThe British Medical Association (BMA - a professional association for doctors) has a produced a Clinical Trials Internet Resource which aims to improve general knowledge of clinical trials. It includes a section on involving service users and carers.CERESCERES (Consumers for Ethics in Research) is an independent charity that promotes informed debate about research and helps service users to develop and publicise their views on health research and on new treatments. It has produced leaflets for potential trial participants that list the questions people may want to ask before they decide whether to take part.THE COCHRANE LIBRARYThe Cochrane Library is considered to be one of the best sources of reliable evidence about the effects of health care. It is internationally respected as providing the gold standard in &amp;quot;what works and what doesn&amp;rsquo;t&amp;quot;. It is used by researchers and clinicians worldwide, and increasingly by patients and their families. It also provides the evidence base for many people involved in the preparation of health guidelines.CORECCOREC (The Central Office for Research Ethics Committees) co-ordinates and oversees the work of the research ethics committees in England. It has produced guidance for researchers on what information should be included in a patient information sheet.THE HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT PROGRAMME (HTA)The HTA programme aims to ensure that high quality research information on the&amp;nbsp;costs, effectiveness and broader impact of health technologies is produced in the most effective way for those who use, manage and provide care in the NHS. It includes explanatory essays and over a hundred records containing key passages illustrating the evolution of fair tests over the centuries.THE MANIC DEPRESSION FELLOWSHIP The Manic Depression Fellowship works to enable people affected by manic depression to take control of their lives. It aims to do this by: supporting and developing self help opportunities, expanding and developing the information services, influencing treatments and services to promote recovery, decreasing discrimination and promoting social inclusion.THE MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (MRC) The UK Medical Research Council (MRC) is a national organisation funded by the UK taxpayer. It funds and supports research in many areas with the aim of improving the health and quality of life of the UK public and contributing to the wealth of the nation.THE MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION The Mental Health Foundation exists to help people survive, recover from and prevent mental health problems. Their website provides clear and simple information on different conditions and treatments as well as linking to other useful sites. It aims to reduce the burden of mental illness and behavioural disorders through research on mind, brain, and behaviour. It has produced &amp;lsquo;A Participant&amp;#39;s Guide to Mental Health Clinical Research&amp;rsquo; which has been written for mental health service users in the US, but also has some useful information for people in this country.NATIONAL LIBRARY FOR HEALTH - MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST LIBRARYThis site aims to meet the information needs of health care professionals who work in the field of mental health. It is also freely available to the general public, although some people may find NHS Direct Online a more appropriate web site for their needs.RETHINK Rethink is the largest severe mental illness charity in the UK. It is dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by severe mental illness, whether they have a condition themselves, care for others who do, or are professionals or volunteers working in the mental health field.
